Cass County Electric Cooperative awards $8,000 to local tech and trade schools and universities

Fargo, N.D. – Cass County Electric Cooperative is pleased to announce our commitment to our communities and higher education by awarding $2,000 each in funding to local educational entities.

  • North Dakota State University, Impact Fund
  • Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Unrestricted Gift
  • Minnesota State University Moorhead, University’s Greatest Need
  • Valley City State University, V500

“One of Cass County Electric’s core values is commitment to community, and donating to education is a great way to support this cooperative value,” says Paul Matthys, vice president of members services at Cass County Electric Cooperative.

These funds will support the teaching, research, student body, and public service missions of colleges and universities. Donating to these institutions allows us to give to the next generation of students, many of whom will be active members of the communities that we serve—effectively making a lasting impact on future generations of students and our communities with a gift that will last long into the future.

Minnesota State University Moorhead Director of Giving, Cindy Bailey, says, “The MSU Moorhead Greatest Needs fund is the university’s most essential fund because it is unrestricted. The Greatest Needs fund allows the foundation to serve the university in impactful ways from supporting students through scholarships, funding renovation projects and improvements to facilities on campus and providing for faculty research and development opportunities. At MSUM, we believe that we can transform the world through transforming lives…one…Dragon..at a time.”

In addition to the post-secondary donations, Cass County Electric Cooperative, in conjunction with CoBank, awards $17,000 yearly in scholarships to high school students attending schools within our service territory. We utilize the North Dakota Dollars for Scholars program for scholarship distribution.

The cooperative is also a gold sponsor in North Dakota State College of Science’s Workforce Partner Program, which focuses on curriculum development, recruitment, and faculty training.

Each year one aspiring lineworker receives a $2,000 scholarship through Bismarck State College towards completing the Electric Lineworker Program.

Headquartered in Fargo, ND, Cass County Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric distribution system serving more than 52,000 member accounts in a 10-county area in southeastern North Dakota. Cass County Electric Cooperative has five service centers in Fargo, Kindred, Valley City, Lisbon, and Arthur, North Dakota.
