Recipe: Popcorn Balls

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cups marshmallows
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 16 cups unflavored popped popcorn
  • M&Ms, candy corn, salted pretzels, or other candy (optional)

Preparation

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter.
  2. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. Add popcorn and fold into the marshmallow mixture. If using candy, mix it in now.
  5. When the mixture is cool enough to handle, lightly spray your hands with nonstick cooking spray.
  6. Scoop about 1 cup of the popcorn mixture and press it into a ball.
  7. Place balls on a sheet of waxed paper to cool.

Grandma used to put these into resealable bags for us to take home when we stopped by trick-or-treating.
