Are You Aware of Phantom Energy?

Published:

Are you aware that you may be wasting as much as $100 a year on things you're not even using? The energy wasted when appliances and electronics are sitting in standby mode is sometimes called phantom energy or vampire power because it could be haunting your energy bill.

That little tiny light glowing from computer speakers, DVD players, gaming consoles and more — that's phantom energy. Chargers that are plugged in, but nothing is being charged — phantom energy.

Look around. Do you see something that's plugged in but not actually being used? If you do, you may be paying for it to just sit there.

The good news is that there are ways to fight this energy waste. Advanced power strips only let components like speakers, printers, gaming consoles and more when the device there attached to, like a TV or computer, is on. You could invest in a smart plug that turns everything off when it's not in use. You could just pull the plug altogether.

Don't let phantom energy haunt your bills. It's not worth it.
